The upper branch of the Thunder Bay River reaches between McCormick Lake and Lake Fifteen. The flooding at Atlanta is above the dam in town.

The Thunder Bay River Canoe & Kayak Livery is just below the dam in town.

Between Atlanta and Hillman the water has various depths from deep pools to ripples.  Emerick Park in Hillman, offers camping and other amenities. Below Hillman the river widens, but continues to offer a variety of depths.

The South Branch of the Thunder Bay River flows into Fletcher Pond and connects with Cole Creek, Bullock Creek and Webber Creeks.

The North Branch of the Thunder Bay River, flows out of Rush Lake and through the countryside in the northeast corner of county.
